Google Updates

28 October 2007

The Administration Team has been working closely over the last couple of days with Google in an attempt to get some revenue from the site's views and also to get WikiForAll into the Google index.

Advertising is setup and working, but the site has not yet been added to Google's index. We expect to be added to Google's index within the next week.

8:30 PM

We missed out on Google's crawl through the site because of a mistake in the server configuration. It has since been fixed and we're now waiting for Google's next crawl. Once we are in the index it'll be put here so that it can be known.

3 November 2007

11:46 AM

We've been crawled! You can now Google us if you want.

A note the recent downtime (from about 9 am until now): When attempting to configure webmail access something went wrong in the server configuration and caused a permissions problem locally. This was reported as an "Error 500" and has been fixed.

16 April 2008

We've been working with Google some more lately and are working to try to get as many of our pages into the index as possible. We've also found that for the month of April the most popular search query that returned a WikiForAll result was "econo poo". Whatever goes, I guess...

WikiForAll Updates

28 October 2007

We are pleased to announce that, thanks to a recent migration from Windows to Linux on the server system, it is now possible to send and receive emails using the Wiki. To send an email to a user, go to Special:Userlist, click on their username, and then click "Email this user" (it's in the footer of the page).

In addition, it is now possible to reset your password via email if you forget your password.

If you are logged in, you can go to "My preferences" (in the top bar) and choose what email notifications you receive.

We have since fixed the email sending problem (where emails would take a long time to reach their destination).

30 October 2007

It is with great pleasure that I write that we are purchasing a domain name for the Wiki. Once purchased this article will be updated with the relevant information about the domain.

2:05 PM

Just purchased the domain name "wikiforall.net" and pointed it to this server. Once the DNS updates we'll spread the new link around, as the Wiki will be moved and no longer exist at this location.

2:14 PM

aaNet's DNS cache has been cleared, so for all aaNet internet customers please start accessing this Wiki. If you don't get the Wiki at this location please continue using this Wiki. Yet, still keep checking at http://www.wikiforall.net/ as well.

Please also note that the "www" before wikiforall.net is required, for a reason that I haven't yet found out.

5:16 PM

It appears that the Wiki is now globally accessible. Access to the old Wiki has been replaced with a file informing users of the new Wiki location.

The "www." before WikiForAll is no longer required but you may have to login again if you change between having them or not having them.

3 November 2007

11:48 PM

Email works properly now, although we are working on secure authentication (at the moment passwords and such are sent across the internet in plaintext).

16 April 2008

Email is no longer available, though we're working at getting it back. You can now use either "www.wikiforall.net" or "wikiforall.net" though, the virtual hosts in our server work nicely now. We may be needing donations in the future to rebuy wikiforall.net so we don't lose it. More information closer to that date though.

17 April 2008

Email is available again! Sign Up for your very own WikiForAll email address and join in the fun.

18 April 2008

To combat the negative effect the Hall of Shame may have on viewers of WikiForAll, a Hall of Fame has been created that will honour exceptional users. Administrators will select these users of course.

8 October 2008

Some minor changes have been made to the server setup in order to facilitate faster loading of pages and reduced CPU usage on our side. We also have more bandwidth and have upgraded to a faster internet connection.

17 November 2008

We've made some more changes and fixed a bug in a page that slowed page loads.

Site Blog

A WikiForAll blog was created and will be the sister project of WikiForAll. You can now access this Blog, which is called WinForAll. This blog will be used to help facilitate the promotion of this site, but will also be used to help ensure that our members don't forget us, and have some form of active participation in the site.

Forum Updates

18 April 2008

The Forums client has been updated to prepare for any increase in demand in the future. As a result, previous topics, discussions, statistics and users have been lost. You now need to register again, if you haven't already, to continue to be apart of the Forums. Furthermore, a lot of the structure of the previous Forum client has been regained, so it should be easier to get to where you were in the Forums before.

27 December 2008

As of today, the Forums are well and truly active, so feel free to participate. You will find that there are numerous possible and potential topics and discussions to talk about.

Planned Developments
